Hello Peeps, Everybody knows my Love of Rocky Patel Cigars. Tonight, I am doing a late run to Hughestown, PA. I have chosen the RP 1961 for the ride back. This cigar is the first produced at Rocky’s new factory called Tobacalera Villa Cuba. Filler is Nicaraguan, binder Honduran, and Ecuadorian wrapper. This is my go to smoke, and everyone of them has been the same. Starts out with spice, and a little kick. Then after a quarter, it backs down to a smooth smoke. This stick produces lots of smoke, and the flavors change from spice, to sweet wood, to smoked almond flavors. I think Rocky blended this cigar for me personally. He says I am his #1 fan. We have these in Torpedo, and I urge you to try it. Some people don’t like RP, and that’s cool. This cigar is different from earlier blends. Well after driving over 500 miles today, I will start my 3 day weekend. Happy Labor Day weekend everybody!! Wayne ” Rocky Rulz” Young

Hello Campers!, I am not on the road today. I am relaxing in the Lounge, and decide to fire up this Baby. Padron uses well aged Nicaraguan Tobacco. Some of the leafs in this stick are 10 years old. I punch the cap and light it. The first puff was Magic, as flavors of spice, cocoa, and coffee slam my palate. As I smoke on, the well aged tobacco starts to gather complexity, and I swear flavor of raisins came through. I love a cigar that changes as it is smoked. The complexity and blending of this cigar are top notch. I think I saw Angels in the deep blue smoke. This cigar is not exactly cheap, But if you want to spoil yourself rotten, Go Get em. We have them in maduro and natural, and the price is $28.00. I think every cigar smoker has to smoke this blend to fully understand complex aged tobacco. I got an hour of bliss from this. Damn, now I gotta drive home!. Until next time, Light em Up! Wayne “Rocky Rulz” Young, CRT

Today, I am headed to Easton PA, and light up the new Gurkha Viper. It is Box pressed with a Sun Grown Wrapper. Filler is Nicaraguan with a Dominican binder. This cigar has nice spice and wood through the nose. This baby burns slow and takes me an hour just to smoke half. The final half is the same strength and flavor profile. I am impressed with this offering from Gurkha. With a price point of $ 6- 8 dollars, Gurkha is making cigars for the average smoker. I enjoyed this cigar and I finish it when arriving in Easton,PA. Its a straight forward cigar with good flavor and takes awhile to get through. I would recommend this cigar to smoke without worrying about complexity or flavor. Just Smoke it!. Available at the shop in multiple sizes. Beware of the new travel center in Delaware. The prices will make you wait till Maryland to buy anything. Until next time, Happy Smoking Wayne “Rocky Rulz” Young CRT

Hello Brothers and Sisters of the leaf. I Drive for a living, and smoke a cigar almost everyday. I am a Certified Tobacconist, so doing these reviews is awesome. I am not going to give ratings on the cigars, just give you my highlights. I came back from the IPCPR with a lot of new cigars we will be stocking at Chesapeake Cigar Company. I am driving to Hershey, PA and couldn’t wait to light this dark Brazilian Wrapped maduro up. First draw was smooth and flavors of cocoa and a little sweetness continued as I smoked it. Perfect construction, and the flavors mellowed as I approached the halfway mark. The last third cedar flavor was dominant. I would compare this to an AVO maduro. Gurkha, known for the expensive cigars, made this cigar in the $6-7 dollar range. If you like a mild maduro without the spice, snatch this baby up. Traffic is cooperating THANK GOD!. Next up: Gurkha Viper. Light ‘em Up

The boys at Alec Bradley are introducing their popular Tempus cigars in four sizes with a maduro wrapper. While this might not be big news, the method they are using to age and ferment the maduro leaf is.

To make the new Alec Bradley Tempus Maduro, owner Alan Rubin is using a method he first saw in Little Havana about 12 years ago, using a bethune made from fruit pulp to aid the fermentation. “We’re fermenting the tobacco with natural product that was used 50 or 70 years ago.” This method of aging adds additional strength and flavor to the cigar, one of Rubin’s goals for the Tempest Maduro.

Alec Bradley produced a small run of these Tempus Maduros last year with a limited release Magistri perfecto. The Magistri maduros almost immediately sold out — proving that this blend was a winner with legs. Having smoked several of the limited release Magistris and the new sizes at the IPCPR Show, I can tell you from personal experience that this is going to be a very popular cigar very soon.

Chesapeake has all four sizes on order and will be adding them to the humidor as soon as they start to ship.

But, there's a little confusion over these popular cigars that might be keeping some "on the fence" and not trying these fantastic smokes.

The Oliva Cigar Company has teamed-up with Sam “Sammy The NUb” Leccia to produce what have become some of the hottest cigars on the market today — NUb and Cain. But, there’s a little confusion over these popular cigars that might be keeping some “on the fence” and not trying these fantastic smokes.

The quest to create the NUb was founded in Sam’s personal smoking experience. He loves cigars, but found there was a sweet-spot in typical cigars where they were at their best. The NUb is his answer to creating a cigar that provides the same experience from beginning to end — Sam’s sweet spot.

While considered short in length, NUb are hardly a short smoke. Because of the larger ring gauge (girth), the typical NUb has as much tobacco as a Toro (a 6 inch by 50 ring) and a few top-out with enough tobacco to make a Churchill (7 inch by 59 ring.)

Cain, on the other hand, is Sam’s answer to producing as close to an all ligero cigar as possible. The ligero leaf isn’t different tobacco — it’s the tobacco found at the top of each tobacco plant. Ligero leaves at the smallest and fullest bodied on the plant. Growing closest to the sun, the sugars and oils concentrate in these leaves more than any other, producing a leaf that is packed with body and flavor. And, because of their unique size and strength, the produce the hardest the burn leaves that cigars are made with. For the most part, all cigars have varying amounts of ligero to give them body (a select few have no ligero at all.)

According to Sam, “Cain was part of an ongoing effort by everyone in the industry to make an all-ligero cigar. We found it couldn’t be completely all-ligero, so we [made it] ’25% Esteli Ligero, 27% Condega Ligero and 30% Jalapa Ligero’ and left the rest to your imagination.” What’s left to your imagination is what allows the cigar to burn well despite it’s 80+ percent ligero composition.

Many may shy away from the fullest bodied offerings in the Cain line because they fear they might be too much for them. These cigars certainly pack a punch of power, but body does not always equate to harshness. Smokers continue to flock to them in droves because they find them smooth and tasty.

Then, to confuse things a little more, Sam’s two lines — NUb and Cain — intersect in the Cain NUb — NUb versions of the ligero packed Cains.

Here is a breakdown of the current cigar line-up from Sammy The NUb:

NUb – available in four different blends:

Cameroon, in four sizes: 358 (3 3/4 inches by 58 ring), 460 (4 x 60), 464T (4 x 64 torpedo) and 466BPT (4 x 66 torpedo).

Connecticut, in four sizes: 354 (3 3/4 x 54), 358, 460, 464T.

Habano, in four sizes: 358, 460, 464T, 466 (4 x 66 parejo).

Maduro, in two sizes: 460 and 464T.

Cain – available in three different blends:

Cain Habano, in three sizes: 550 (5 3/4 x 50), 654T (6 x 54 torpedo) and 660 (6 x 60).

Cain Maduro, in three sizes: 550, 654T and 660.

Cain F, in three sizes: 550, 654T and 660, plus the Cain F NUb (4 x 60), which is so far only available during in-store events which are part of the ongoing Cain F Tour!*

Cain NUb – currently available in two different blends:

Cain Nub Habano, in two sizes: 460 and 464T.

Cain Nub Maduro, in two sizes: 460 and 464T.

*Our sources with Oliva tell us that after this year’s Cain F Tour is over, the Cain F NUb will make its way to boxes and to our shelves.

It’s easy to decipher the name of the NUb or Cain to determine size and shape. For instance, a 460 is a 4 inch long by 60 ring cigar, a 550 is a 5 inch long by 50 ring cigar, a 466BPT is a 4 inch long by 66 ring that is a box-pressed torpedo (hence the BPT.)

Chesapeake Cigar is on the 2010 Cain F Tour. Sam will be here rolling event only Cain F NUbs on Friday, November 5th. Watch for more details in our weekly newsletters as the date gets closer.

The 83-year-old Cuban émigré is the embodiment of the American dream, having come to the United States in the early 1960s with nothing more than a few hundred dollars, a solid work ethic and the burning desire to make cigars that tasted as good as the ones he smoked as a young man in Cuba. The image of a hammer on this special release commemorates a most precious gift given to him by a friend when he was virtually penniless—the tool allowed him to eke out a living as a carpenter, money he saved to form a small cigar company. The cigar smokers of the world owe that benefactor a great debt, for the Padrón family continues to give us one brilliant cigar after another.

No company has dominated Cigar Aficionado’s ratings in the way Padrón Cigars has. Named Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar of the Year for 2009, an honor that has only existed for six years. The No. 45 is stronger than typical Padróns and is an intense smoke jammed with rich, hearty, coffee notes and a heady amount of spices. The Padróns are tobacco hoarders, keeping stocks of tobacco for years, and this cigar is made with some of their oldest leaves. Company president Jorge Padrón says the leaves inside are as old as 10 years.

The first of the Padrón’s Family Reserves were torpedos made from very old tobaccos, served only for special occasion dinners and never sold at retail. While the 45 shares the original’s old tobacco, it’s a slightly different blend and an entirely different shape, being a severely pressed parejo. While the majority of Padrón Family Reserve No. 45s are made with maduro wrappers, some are wrapped in natural leaves. The cigars come in tidy boxes of 10, the cover of which bears the signature of the Padrón clan. “This is something you carry in your blood,” says José Orlando Padrón about making cigars. “I was born in the middle of all that and that is why I love it so much.”
